Workshop & Yard Operative

Terberg DTS UK is looking for a Workshop and Yard Operative to support the efficient operation of the Elland site.

Location: Elland, Halifax

What is the job role?

To support the efficient operation of the Elland site by managing vehicle movements, assisting with workshop and yard activities, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organised working environment. This role plays a key part in ensuring timely vehicle processing and supporting cross-functional site operations.

Requirements and what we are looking for

  • Operate shunters and manage general vehicle movement across the site.
  • Plan and coordinate vehicle movements in line with workshop schedules to ensure ‘just in time’ availability.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of shunters on inbound and outbound transport.
  • Capture off-hire and on-hire photographs of shunters for documentation and quality control.
  • Support with valeting a range of vehicles to ensure they are clean, presentable, and staged for customer collection.
  • Carry out weekly vehicle stock audits, ensuring all vehicles are correctly mapped to on-site yard locations and that relevant systems are updated to reflect accurate vehicle whereabouts.
  • Perform weekly yard and perimeter cleaning, ensuring all areas are free from foreign object debris (FOD) and maintained to a high standard.
  • Carry out general building and yard maintenance, including tidying, basic repairs, and ensuring health and safety standards are met.
  • Operate forklifts and other site equipment in accordance with training and safety procedures.
  • Support workshop teams with ad hoc tasks, including parts handling, equipment set-up, and vehicle preparation.
  • Collaborate with other departments on site-wide projects and operational improvements.
  • Monitor and report any site hazards, maintenance needs, or equipment issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle movements and yard activities using digital tools.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the purpose of the role or to support the needs of the business.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Forklift licence preferred (training can be provided).
  • Previous experience in a yard, workshop, or logistics environment is desirable.
