Kick‑start your engineering and quality career with a hands‑on apprenticeship

Are you curious about how things work, enjoy solving problems, and want to build a career in engineering and quality? Our Apprentice Quality Engineer role is a great opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining real‑world experience alongside a Level 4 Improvement Practitioner apprenticeship.

You’ll work within our Supplier Quality team, supporting both internal manufacturing teams and external suppliers to improve quality, prevent defects, and drive continuous improvement across our processes. From day one, you’ll be learning on the job, supported by experienced mentors and structured training.

What you’ll be doing

As an Apprentice Quality Engineer, you’ll be involved in a wide range of quality and improvement activities, including:

  • Collecting and analysing quality data to help identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities
  • Supporting investigations into non‑conforming or defective materials and helping to put corrective actions in place
  • Working with suppliers to assess quality, capability, and compliance
  • Supporting new product introduction and supplier verification activities
  • Taking part in cross‑functional improvement projects across the business
  • Learning and applying structured problem‑solving, Lean, and continuous improvement tools

You won’t be expected to know everything from day one – this role is about learning, developing, and building confidence over time.

Your apprenticeship – Level 4 Improvement Practitioner

Alongside your role, you’ll complete the Level 4 Improvement Practitioner apprenticeship, designed to help you understand how to identify, plan, and deliver meaningful improvements in a business environment.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Identify improvement opportunities and diagnose inefficiencies
  • Use Lean and Six Sigma methods to solve problems
  • Analyse data and balance the needs of the customer and the business
  • Manage change and embed sustainable improvements
  • Lead or contribute to real workplace improvement projects

Training is delivered through a blend of live online sessions, coaching, independent study, and workplace projects, with dedicated learning time built into your working week.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is motivated, curious, and keen to learn. You don’t need previous quality experience – what matters most is your attitude and interest.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A genuine interest in engineering, quality, improvement, or how businesses operate
  • Good communication skills and confidence working with others
  • An analytical mindset and interest in data and problem‑solving
  • A positive attitude and willingness to take ownership of your development
  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams)

Qualifications:

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 9–4 (A–C), including Maths, English, and Science (desirable)

Why join us?

  • Earn while you learn with a nationally recognised Level 4 qualification
  • Hands‑on experience in a real engineering and manufacturing environment
  • Structured support, mentoring, and coaching throughout your apprenticeship
  • Be part of a business that values quality, integrity, and continuous improvement
  • Clear development opportunities beyond the apprenticeship
